Hepatitis A in the Americas: recent reports from the USA and Latin America |

Although numbers of hepatitis A have been declining for some time in the Americas, a series of recent outbreaks in the USA have brought attention to this infection. A recent publication (Wasuwanich et al. Journal of Viral Hepatitis 2023; AOP: 10.1111/jvh.13902) highlights the epidemiology of hepatitis A hospitalisations from 1998 to 2020 in the United States and investigates risk factors for inpatient mortality. A total of 213,681 hepatitis A‐related hospitalisations between 1998 and 2020were analysed, with hospitalisation rates ranging between 22.4 per 1,000,000 and 62.9 per 1,000,000.
